Birthday: Dec 5th 1980

SHORT BIO

I spent the first nine years of my life on a farm in western Michigan. My family then moved to a suburb outside Chicago where I spent the rest of my childhood. I now live in Chicago with my fiancé, Annie Colbert, and two cats -- Oscar and Layla Beans.

I consider myself a lifelong explorer who lives to create. I started my first company as a junior in college at the age of 20. I used most the money to pay for all my college debt and living expenses for the first two years out of college and also traveled for eight months with Annie around Europe and Asia.

I earned the prestigious honor of the first person from my university ever named to the ALL-USA Academic First Team. Only 20 students each year from around the entire United States earn the honor. I graduated from College of DuPage and Aurora University at the top of my class and gave the commencement speech at each graduation. USA Today featured my profile in a full page spread distributed internationally.

Since graduating, I worked for three years as a professional facilitator for Quantum Learning Network which is considered the premier company for accelerated learning techniques. Through QLN, I spoke to thousands of students around the US and the world including South Korea, Indonesia and Bermuda.

In 2004 I co-founded my second business, Swift Kick, with the goal of increasing student engagement in education. We use both training and technology to accomplish our mission and continue building an educational model suited for the future. We've been named back-to-back Best Campus Speaker of the Year for 2007 and 2008.

Our two training programs are Dance Floor Theory Leadership Training and The Secrets Behind Facebook and Myspace.

Our latest project is Red Rover, a free online student orientation tool that integrates with Facebook.

PERSONAL NOTE - My fiance, Annie, and I were one of three finalists competing for the NBC Today Show Wedding - Race to the Alter. To learn more visit > www.annietom.com

  • Twitter Has Officially Tipped - (3 of 8) Jul 10, 2008 10:59 pm
Posted by Nick O'Neill on April 14th, 2008 3:23 PMWell it looks like Twitter has officially tipped. Personally, I have noticed a jump in the size of my Twitter followers over the past few days. Just today I've had 15 people add me and the day isn't over. This is similar numbers to what Alley Insider is reporting. Brian Solis says that "Twitter is t... "The cost of high-speed internet access has deterred many rural communities from making Greene County's move. But it appears now that slow-trot efforts to bring affordable WiFi to rural America may be breaking into gallop. Last week Intel announced development of its rural connectivity platform. According to the company's Jeff Galinovsky, the techn... [Source: http://www.hastac.org]Added Apr 08, 20082 new comments, out of 2. So I had some heavy thoughts last night while my prof was lecturing in our social media class. Namely, where are sites like YouTube, mySpace and Facebook headed? They seem like a great deal: colleges and universities can put their content on there for free. No charge for server space or content. All it takes is people's time and energy to populate ...
